On the evening of October 1, 2017, 58 people lost their lives attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival. It was the deadliest mass shooting in the  history of the United States, scarring the usually festive Las Vegas region.

 

The community responded, in part, by building a 'Healing Garden', six miles north of the tragedy, featuring a 'wall of remembrance' and 58 trees - one representing each of the lives lost that terrible night.
